I think it’s about time I write a short piece on Poppy’s crying. It’s horrible to listen to, especially when you can’t figure out what’s up with her. Let’s face it. Babies eat, sleep and poop. If anything gets in the way of eating, sleeping or pooping then they cry, and Mum or Dad fix whatever it is so that the can get on with either eating, sleeping or pooping.
So far we’ve identified the following cries:
- I’m hungry mum- get ’em out.
- I’m sitting on a full one here- would you ever change my nappy.
- Waaa Waaa Waaaa Buuuuurrrrrpp!
- Hey room service- I’m Too hot / too cold.
- Stop fussing!
- Who the heck are you? Hand me back to Mum/ Dad.
- Hey! Why’d you wake me up?
- A bath? just leave me dirty, ok?
Out shopping this week we met a mum who gave us a cracking piece of advice for when she was trying to get her baby off to sleep.
The hair-dryer.
The sound of the hairdryer comforts babies. It bugs the hell out of me, but for Poppy it relaxes her, and sends her off dozing. Since finding this out, we’ve tried a few other white noise-makers too. The radio tuned off-channel also works- and sounds less annoying.
Deirdie snoring has a similar effect, I’m sure!
